Leviathan never returned to Portsmouth: a few weeks later the Six-Day War broke out and she hurried to Israel. Dakar’s crew, still in England, arranged for the belongings of Leviathan’s crew to be sent home after them.

כמה מילים על אלכס שדמון
אלכס שדמון החל את שירותו בחיל הים כמכונאי באוניות קיטור וסיים קורס חובלים בשנת 1954. הוא החל ללמוד בטכניון, אך הפסיק את לימודיו כדי להתנדב לצוללות. לאחר תקופת ההכשרה בצרפת ובאנגליה ורכישת צוללות ה־S, חזר ארצה כקצין המכונה של אח״י תנין — למעשה הצ׳יף הראשון בשייטת.
בשנת 1961 חידש את לימודיו ובשנת 1963 קיבל תואר מהנדס מכונות. בשנת 1964 יצא שוב לאנגליה במסגרת הצוות הטכני לקבלת צוללות ה־T. עם הגעת אח״י דולפין מונה למרכז שיפוץ הצוללת במספנת חיל הים.
אלכס מילא תפקידים נוספים בחיל הים ובמשרד הביטחון, ובהם סגן ראש מספנה, מנהל תוכנית צוללות הגל במשרד הביטחון ומפקד צוות תכלית (סער 4). הוא פרש מן השירות בשנת 1989, לאחר שתפקידו האחרון היה ראש מנה״ר־ים.
A few words about Alex Shadmon
Alex Shadmon began his naval service as a mechanic aboard steamships and graduated from the naval officers’ course in 1954. He interrupted his studies at the Technion to volunteer for the new submarine force. After training in France and Britain, he returned to Israel as INS Tanin’s engineering officer — the Flotilla’s first chief engineer. He resumed his studies in 1961 and earned a mechanical engineering degree in 1963. In 1964 he returned to England as part of the technical team receiving the T-class submarines. After INS Dolphin arrived in Israel, he coordinated her refit at the naval shipyard. His later posts included deputy head of the shipyard, manager of the Gal submarine programme at the Ministry of Defence, and commander of the Tachlit team (Sa’ar 4). He retired in 1989; his final post was head of Minhar-Yam.
